Olympus recently released the ninth patch for its ODMS (Olympus Dictation Management System) Windows software. The patch should be applied to both the Dictation and Transcription module is free to download and updates in seconds.

The patch allows compatibility with Microsoft Office 2016 and resolves some issues with Microsoft Office 365.

Last week Olympus released an update to their Olympus DSS Player Plus software for Mac, two weeks after Apple released OSX 10.11 a.k.a. El Capitan.

The release notes for DSS Player Plus are short and sweet, just "OSX 10.11 is supported", nothing else. But for anyone who grabbed at the latest Apple Mac operating system would have known, El Capitan bought major issues for DSS Player Plus breaking all USB connectivity with digital voice recorders but with the most impact, the USB transcription foot pedals, leaving many Mac transcriptionists worldwide stuck.

Some users attempted to uninstall then re-install their DSS Player Plus software, this also failed as the installer too was not compatible with this OS X release.

For Olympus DSS Player Plus release v7.5.2 you have the option of two update files:

Apple's latest Mac operating system update OS X 10.11 El Capitan released on 30th September 2015 appears to have caused some issues with Olympus Mac transcription users. Early indications show that users with both the RS-28 and RS-31 USB transcription pedals seem to have lost foot control functionality with their DSS Player Plus v7 transcription software. These are customers who are running the latest version which is v7.5.1

Olympus in Australia are aware and are in discussions with Olympus Japan. In the meantime you will have to use the hot keys to control your audio playback.

Olympus have recently released a free update to their Mac software for professional audio (dss and ds2) playback taking from version 7.5.0 to 7.5.1.

For some time now OS X 10.10 Yosemite users have been using v7.5.0 without issue, but if you are like most and already on 10.10 then it will be worthwhile updating to stay current. No functionality changes or bug fixes seem to have been included in this release.
